A short lane: Kochi to Sohar
Our factory operates in Perumbavoor, Kerala, about 40 km from Cochin Port, where our group has made plywood since 1986. Containers gate in at the Vallarpadam terminal and cross the Arabian Sea on a direct run. It is one of the shorter export lanes out of India, with transit measured in days rather than weeks, which matters when a site or packing line is waiting on material.
On the Oman side, most container traffic clears through Sohar. Buyers in the Muscat area typically take delivery at Sohar and truck onward. If your operation clears through Salalah instead, say so in the enquiry and we will quote against that routing. Oman sits on the same GCC network we serve into the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain. The export hub covers every lane, and our GCC export notes go deeper on documentation and scheduling.
What Oman buyers order
Three lines carry most of the volume: packing-grade plywood for crates and pallets, film-faced shuttering plywood for formwork, and commercial plywood for joinery and fit-out.
| Product | Build | Typical use in Oman |
|---|---|---|
| Packing-grade plywood | MR bond, IS 303; 6, 8, 12, 15, 18 mm typical | Crates, case panels, pallet decks |
| Film-faced shuttering plywood | Film-faced, made for repeated concrete pours | Slab and column formwork |
| Commercial / BWR plywood | MR or BWR bond; Okoume face on request | Joinery, fit-out, furniture |
| Marine plywood | IS 710, BWP bond | High-moisture duty |
| Plywood boxes, crates, pallets | Produced under an ISPM-15 compliant process | Machinery packing, logistics |
| Cable drums, container flooring ply | Made to order | Cable plants, container repair |
Okoume is a face-veneer option on the MR-packing and BWR builds rather than a separate grade; specify it in the enquiry if the panel face matters at the far end. We also make calibrated E1 panels with an Okoume face on a eucalyptus core — 16 mm at roughly 32 kg a sheet, bare or HPL-laminated — for furniture and interior work. Full builds and thickness options are on the packing plywood, film-faced shuttering plywood, and commercial plywood pages.
USD quotes on FOB Cochin terms
Export quotes are issued in US dollars, with FOB Cochin as the default term. Standard products ship against 50% advance and the balance before dispatch; custom builds are 100% advance. Payment is by bank transfer (T/T).
We do not publish rate lists. Veneer and timber costs move, and a printed number goes stale. Send the spec instead — thickness, sheet size, grade, face, quantity, and discharge port — and a written quote comes back within one business day. Quantities can be one-off or scheduled monthly; recurring contracts get their own pricing conversation.
ISPM-15: what applies and what does not
A point that trips up first-time importers: plywood sheets are exempt from ISPM-15. Plywood is a processed wood product, so panels ship without heat-treatment stamps or fumigation certificates. The rule covers solid-wood packaging — pallets, crates, dunnage. Where we supply plywood boxes, crates, or pallets, the ISPM-15 process and markings are handled on our side. If you run your own packing line and are weighing treatment routes, our note on heat treatment versus methyl bromide sets out the difference.
Shipping documents are prepared and shared before the vessel sails, so clearance at Sohar can start the day the container lands.
