Why Gurugram's industrial belt keeps us on the phone
Gurugram is not one factory town — it is a stack of them. Maruti Suzuki's Gurgaon plant on Old Delhi Road, the Hero MotoCorp lines off NH-48, Honda Cars' supplier ecosystem and the IMT Manesar belt twenty kilometres south together generate one of the heaviest CKD and component-export packing demands in northern India. The IT corridor along Golf Course Road and Cyber City adds a second, lighter stream — server racks, networking gear and data-centre hardware that all need wooden crates rated for air or ocean freight. The Cochin Wood group has been packaging this kind of load out of Perumbavoor since 1986, and Gurugram's auto-component exporters and IT OEMs have become a steady lane for our packing-grade plywood, ISPM-15 crates, pallets and container flooring.
The Gurugram industrial picture
For a plywood and packing supplier, Gurugram is best understood as four overlapping zones, each with a different packing profile.
Udyog Vihar (Sectors 18, 19, 20)
The original industrial estate. Phases I to VI house garment exporters, electronics assemblers, small auto-ancillary units and a long tail of contract manufacturers. Crate volumes are moderate but frequent — typically 6mm to 12mm packing-grade plywood for export cartons and lightweight cases.
IMT Manesar (Sectors 1, 2, 3, 7, 8)
Heavy auto. This is where Maruti Suzuki's Manesar plant, Honda's two-wheeler supplier base and a Tier-1 auto-component cluster sit. CKD packing for export markets — Latin America, ASEAN, Africa — drives the bulk of our plywood movement here. Expect heavier crates, 12mm and 18mm boards, with substantial pallet runs.
Sectors 32, 33, 34 and the Pace City belt
A mixed-engineering pocket — pump makers, hydraulic equipment, electrical panel builders. These units often need fabricated crates around odd-shaped machinery, which favours sawn timber framing on a plywood skin.
Cyber City, Sector 44 and the DLF Phase III IT corridor
Data centres, server-rack OEMs and hyperscale customers' India operations. Crates here are smaller but engineered — anti-static lining is often specified, dimensional tolerance matters, and ISPM-15 marking is non-negotiable for export-bound consignments.
What we ship to Gurugram
Three product lines do most of the work on this lane.
Packing-grade plywood (commercial / rubberwood)
Our standard packing-grade range, supplied ex-factory in 8×4 sheets:
| Thickness | Typical use in Gurugram |
|---|---|
| 6mm | Light electronics cartons, garment crates, IT accessory packs |
| 8mm – 10mm | Mid-weight auto-component cases, hardware crates |
| 12mm | Standard CKD crate walls and tops, machinery skin |
| 15mm – 18mm | Crate bases, pallet decks, heavy-machinery export cases |
Pricing is per square foot, ex-factory, with GST and transport added on the proforma invoice. Thickness tolerance: "11+" is sold as 12mm, "17+" as 18mm — operator-honest, no marketing thickness games.
Okoume-faced plywood
An export-grade veneer face option on our MR-packing and BWR boards. Okoume reads as a premium surface — clean, light, uniform — which matters when the crate itself is part of the buyer's brand impression (luxury automotive parts, high-value electronics, regulated medical equipment). For a Tier-1 auto-component supplier sending CKD kits to a European OEM, Okoume-faced crates often pay for themselves in customer perception. Quoted on request, not in the standard packing card.
Crates, pallets and container flooring
- Export crates — built to ISPM-15 standard with heat-treated softwood framing and a plywood skin. Side-loading, top-loading or fully-knocked-down configurations on request.
- Pallets — standard 1200×1000mm and 1200×800mm decks, with custom sizes for the Maruti and Hero supplier base. Two-way and four-way entry.
- Container flooring — 28mm flooring panels for refurbishing dry containers used in the auto-component reverse-logistics loop.
- Sawn timber — jackwood at ₹400/cft (¼-inch minus tolerance) and rubberwood runners for framing.
Kochi-to-Gurugram logistics
The lane runs roughly 2,300 km by road and 2,750 km by rail. Two options work for Gurugram buyers, and the choice usually comes down to volume and urgency.
Road — full truck loads, 6 to 8 days transit
From our Perumbavoor dispatch point, a 32-foot single-axle truck reaches the IMT Manesar belt in roughly six to eight days via the Bengaluru–Hyderabad–Nagpur–Agra–Delhi corridor on NH-44 and NH-48. This is the workhorse mode for one-time or low-frequency orders, typically a single truck of 18 to 22 tonnes of finished plywood and crate stock. Unloading at Manesar plants and Udyog Vihar yards is straightforward — we factor unloading charges into the proforma where the buyer cannot provide forklift support.
Rail / multi-modal — bulk recurring lanes, 10 to 14 days
For recurring monthly volumes, a Cochin Port containerised dispatch to ICD Tughlakabad or ICD Patparganj, then short-haul trucked into Gurugram, often works out cheaper per square foot. The trade-off is transit time and one extra handling step. We are comfortable with both modes; we will quote on whichever option lands the better delivered price for the buyer.
FOB Cochin for export buyers
For Gurugram-headquartered exporters who consolidate at JNPT or Mundra, we can quote FOB Cochin for finished export packing — useful when the buyer is comparing Kerala-origin pricing against north-India suppliers for the same EXIM destination.
Decision rules — which board for which Gurugram load
A practical operator checklist we walk buyers through over the first call:
- Standard auto-component CKD crate, domestic or regional export — commercial packing-grade plywood in 12mm or 15mm, jackwood framing. Best cost-per-crate.
- Premium-export CKD or high-value electronics for European/Japanese buyers — Okoume-faced packing or BWR plywood. Cleaner cosmetics, tighter tolerance, better customer-side perception.
- Construction-equipment or formwork buyers in the broader Delhi-NCR build cycle — shuttering ply, 12mm or 18mm, for concrete formwork on Gurugram's commercial real-estate and metro-corridor projects.
- Server-rack and data-centre crates from Cyber City — 9mm or 12mm packing-grade with anti-static or moisture-barrier lining specified by the buyer.
- Pallets for the Maruti / Hero / Honda supplier chain — standard pallet decks in 12mm or 15mm, four-way entry, ISPM-15 marked.
FAQ
Can you match a Yamunanagar or local NCR supplier's headline rate?
On pure sheet-pricing for thin-gauge commercial ply, a local north-India mill will usually be cheaper because there is no 2,300-km freight in the number. Where Kochi-origin makes sense is consistency of face-veneer quality (especially Okoume), thickness honesty, and bulk export-grade lanes where the freight differential gets absorbed by lower per-sheet cost. We are happy to send a delivered-Gurugram quote so the comparison is apples to apples.
Do you supply ISPM-15 marked crates for direct export?
Yes. We build to ISPM-15 with heat-treated softwood framing, the IPPC stamp applied, and full documentation for the buyer's CHA. This is the standard spec for auto-component CKD packing leaving Gurugram for Europe, Japan, ASEAN and Latin America.
What is the minimum order for a Gurugram dispatch?
Economically, a full single-axle truck — roughly 18 to 22 tonnes of plywood, or an equivalent mix of plywood and finished crates. Smaller orders are possible via part-load operators but the per-sheet landed cost rises noticeably; for a one-off trial we usually suggest a half-truck consolidated with another north-India order.
